I’m not sure that my definition of KISS is the same as the next persons. I think the best example of KISS comes from overly complex designs that have evolved over several generations to become more simplified. The best of KISS designs are tools or machines that allow us to enjoy a high level of productivity through their use, but they’re not overly complex.
Here’s an example of simple, but we best avoid using the term “KISS engineered”.

What a jewel!
They sure are getting that blade to bind, no guides, one guy pulling sideways on the log. Looks like its hopper and barrel cooled. They don’t even have a hammer to drive in the wedge on the end of the log. Have seen this video before. Phil
But they are getting the job done. Amazing what can be done without big factories. A lot of the world still works out of small workshops, more personal service that way but not uniform standards or mass production.
I guess there’s not much danger of kickback there, so my woodshop teacher wood have nothing to kick me out of class for.
Holy crap Batman!
beat’s the heck out of two guys running a pit saw!
i bet they get to be pretty good at producing fairly consistent boards.
“long live the mighty changfa!”
🙂
The guys running a pit saw had a far better view of their cut Bob 🙂
I hope I don’t offend anyone, but that has got to be one of the craziest ways to do that I’ve everseen!!! I had a jaw dropper through the entire thing just wiating for somthing horrible to happen I did’nt want to see. I wonder how many people thats had their fingers, hands, arms or worse cut off with that set up! Ah well, sometimes you just got to use what you got. That little engine sure hung in there did’nt it?
That’s hilarious! And they seem to have a pile of lumber sawed. Wouldn’t someone figure out pretty soon how to take a board or two, sitting on some posts in the ground maybe, and make a log guide or fence of sorts?
